Whether you're a seasoned performer or have no experience in theatre at all, we are the group for you! Join us for auditions on September 25 & 26 for Doublewide, Texas Christmas. Actors can choose to attend one or both audition days and do not need to have anything memorized. Show up and read in character - it's as simple as that! Click the link below to access audition materials you can preview ahead of time. Download the audition packet and fill-it-out before you arrive if you would like to save some time. Hard copies of the audition packet and script sides will also be available at the auditions. The production will be held the first weekend in December.
The Sylacauga Community Playhouse seeks to provide theatrical education, experiences, and quality entertainment throughout the community by creating theatre arts opportunities for all ages and those that are intellectually and physically challenged.
The Sylacauga Community Playhouse was started in the late 1970's by board members Lois Fields, Maxye Veazey, and Dollie Roberts. The theatre, which was a part of the Sylacauga Recreation Center, opened its first show Clarence Darrow in 1981, a one man show starring Edward Miller. It was followed by a production of I Do, I Do, starring Suzy Hammonds and Lynn Sheerly. Over the next 30 plus years the playhouse produced shows such as Steel Magnolias, You Can't Take It With You, Sound of Music, Fiddler on the Roof, Hello Dolly, and more! Altogether, the playhouse performed over 50 plays, musicals, self-written melodramas, children's plays and musicals, and reader's theatre. In December of 2014, the playhouse became incorporated and was purchased by Sherry Vickers and Dan Nixon, and in 2016 it became a board operated 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. Along with these changes, the playhouse adopted a new mission statement and bylaws, which focus on theatre education, character development in children, and those who are physically and mentally challenged. We are thrilled for the opportunity to perform and encourage a love of the arts in our community.

SCP is run by a board of seven directors who meet on the first Tuesday of each month. The Board of Directors are nominated and voted into the position by the membership at our annual membership meeting which is held in December. The Board consists of a President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, Membership Chair, and two other members, each serving a three-year term. The Board Members determine our productions, manage our finances, ensure we abide by our bylaws, and help select production teams. Each year, we produce a minimum of three productions, one of which is a summer student production for children ages 6-18. We also provide annual college scholarships for local students who are pursuing careers in Theatre Arts. SCP is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization which exists solely for the purpose of providing our community with opportunities to experience the magic of theatre on the stage, behind the scenes, and from the audience.
